Derek Slack Motors Sponsor the Engineers of Tomorrow
Derek Slack Motors are proud to be sponsoring a team of students from a North East School in The Jaguar Primary School Challenge.
The Jaguar Primary School Challenge is a STEM competition, open to students aged 6-11 years old and involves designing and manufacturing the fastest car possible within a set of rules, following the design and engineering processes employed by real engineering companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Skoda.
Part of the project was to secure sponsorship for the team by writing to local companies. Yr6 student Ben Gas, who is obviously a budding entrepreneur, wrote us a very persuasive letter asking for help.
The students will research, design and create model racing cars, learning about aerodynamic forces, efficiency, mathematics and the principles of design. Teams are also given the chance to experiment with the electrification of their vehicles, considering the design considerations of using alternative energy sources.
The teams then compete to be crowned National Champions, producing design portfolios, presenting to the judges and culminating in the ultimate test of speed with a pulsating head-to-head race.
Hopefully one of the Derek Slack Motors sponsored team will be taking the first steps to becoming an automotive engineer of tomorrow.

Our team ‘The Flying Falcons’ came second in the regional finals, also winning the prize for best engineering on the day. The students are very excited to be heading down to Warwick in June to compete in the national finals for the competition.
We wish ‘The Flying Falcons’ the very best of luck in the finals.
